Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at korsman@wbs.co.za if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A COC is required when selling a property, for new installations, alterations, or when requested by a bank or insurer. Minor repairs (like replacing a plug or light fitting) do not require a COC unless safety or wiring changes are involved.

A COC does not automatically expire, but many banks, insurers, estate agents and buyers require a certificate that is less than 12 months old. A new COC is also required if changes or additions were made after the original certificate was issued.

A COC confirms that the wiring and connections are safe and compliant. It does not guarantee that appliances, bulbs or fittings are functioning, as compliance focuses on safety — not performance.

Any unsafe or non-compliant issues must be corrected before a COC can be issued. We will explain what needs to be fixed, why it’s required, and provide a separate quotation if repairs are needed.

A COC covers only the circuits or systems inspected and worked on. Existing installations that were not altered are not automatically included unless they are unsafe and legally required to be reported.

Yes — gas is safe when installed and maintained correctly by a registered installer. A Gas COC confirms that the system is leak-free, properly ventilated, and compliant with South African safety regulations.

Emergency or after-hours callouts can be arranged where possible. These may attract higher rates depending on the time, urgency, and scope of work.

Tripping breakers usually indicate:

  • Overloaded circuits
  • Moisture or water ingress
  • Faulty appliances or cabling

Your DB board is protecting you — repeated tripping should be checked by a registered electrician.

Client-supplied materials can be installed at the client’s risk. We cannot guarantee compliance, performance, or warranties on materials we did not supply.

Cheap electrical or gas work often leads to:

  • Failed inspections
  • Insurance issues
  • Repeat costs to correct non-compliant work

Qualified, compliant work done correctly the first time is safer and more cost-effective in the long run.
